Linux Users of New YorkLUNY is a cashless, all volunteer organization that holds meetings, InstallFests, and special events for the New York area Linux Community.
LUNY can only continue to function if members give back to the community by volunteering to do the tasks necessary in such an organization.To volunteer please come to a LUNY meeting and introduce yourself to Matt or Gary. If you prefer you can contact us by email ; send to matt@omnipod.com
Two types of volunteer are needed:
- Officers have ongoing responsibilities, usually supervise (and train) a team of assistants, and need to make a long-term committment to their monthly tasks.
- Member volunteers assist officers as part of a team, work on one-time or special projects, and need to commit to a deadline for the task they undertake.
LUNY Officer positions:
- President: Matt Hunt matt@omnipod.com
- Supervise meetings, introduce guest speakers
- Vice President: Gary Makhija
- assist and/or replace President in any or all tasks, as needed
- Minister of Propaganda: open
- Post announcements of Luny meetings and special events to appropriate mailing list, newsgroups, and other venues
- Prepare and disseminate LUNY publicity for LUNY web-site, and other relevant public media
- Co-ordinate with reps from other groups on publicity for InterLUG events
- Webmaster: open

- Membership Chair: open
- Maintain membership list
- Supervise annoucement list
- Develop Member Profiles Section (with Web team)
- Represent LUNY at trade shows and other appropriate recruitment opportunities
- Volunteer Co-ordinator: open
- Recruit, supervise, and nurture volunteers
- Mediate volunteer conflicts
- Assist and guide new SIG leaders
- System Administrator: open
- maintain LUNY server
- oversee any software on the server
eg: database, listserver, webboard, etc- Installfest Co-ordinator: open
- Plan and supervise InstallFests
- Maintain InstallFest Library (distribution CDs, spare floppies, manuals, on-line reference materials, etc)
- Recruit Install Gurus
- Prepare pre-Fest publicity (with Min of Propaganda)
- Receive and handle pre-Fest registrations
- Meeting Planner: open
- Recruit and nurture Guest Speakers
- Acquire/ensure meeting space and needed equipment
- Prepare pre-meeting material for web-site
- List Moderators: open
- maintain discussion listserver
- assist/discipline list subscribers as needed
- coordinate with Webmaster and System Administrator on maintenance of web interface to discussion list
- Secretary: open
- Document LUNY meetings (for LUNY History pages)
- Prepare news articles, white papers, committee reports or edit same when created by other volunteers
