L U N Y
Linux Users of New York

Webmaster: open

    The webmaster is responsible to:
  1. Maintain core web-site
  2. Create new site features as needed
  3. Supervise web-site projects
There are a number of projects that we would like accomplish. If any of these is of interest please contact LUNY's President at matt@omnipod.com
Job Listing Section
- An page to display job openings
- A form page where employers can enter the job description, contact information, and "sell-by" date, and select a password
- This will need a script to scan the listings and remove any that have exceeded their "sell-by" date This will need to be executed by a chron job.
- This will also need a form to allow the employer to cancel the job listing, using their password.
Member Profiles Section
- A form page where members can enter their data: name, email, phone, technical skills, pointer to an on-line resume, password, etc
- Code to update a database with the new or changed entry
- Code to dynamically generate a page of profiles from the database
- Possibly a search engine to display a subset of the entries, based on keywords.
- A possible candidate tool is ColdFusion, as was done on the CF-SIG web site.
Application Demos Section
- This is where members could create demos of various formats, to show the use of an application program.    It could be a program that the member wrote themselves or it could be a program that the member uses and likes.
Web Interface to LUNY Discussion list
- Currently LUNY does not have its own discussion list. We need someone to create a webboard type mechanism for a discussion list
or
a script to receive postings from a listserver and add them to the webboard listing
Resource Pages
- This would be similar to the LINKS section of the Linux Documentation Project
- A member would pick a topic area, research available information on the web, and create a page of links with a brief commentary on each link.
- A possible topic would be "Where to buy machines with LINUX/BSD/Hurd Pre-installed".
-Other possible topics include:
  • Sources of commercial technical support for open-software
  • Linux for PPC
  • Bibliography of Linux Books (with reviews?)
  • Apache resources
- Volunteers should feel free to suggest a topic that they feel would be useful and for which they would like to compile links.
SIG pages
- As SIGs form, each one will need a volunteer to design a SIG page, and maintain the information on the page. At a minimum: a description of the SIG, contact information for the SIG leader, date, time, location and topic of next SIG meeting.
- SIG pages can develop into complete mini-sites, where appropriate
Graphical site enhancement
- Currently LUNY uses no graphics, other than logos from the sites of previous guest speakers.
- Someone with an artistic eye and the tools to create some appropriate artwork, has the opportunity to design a visual identity for LUNY.
